I’m not much of a gamer, if I’m honest. Sparky and I pretty much play C&C Generals and C&C3: Tiberium Wars against each other. If you asked me what my favourite games are, they would all be over 5 years old. My favourite and most immersive game of all time comes from 1994 (Relentless/Little Big Adventure), followed closely by Deus Ex. Reading PC PowerPlay’s most recent issue they had a feature on getting back into old games that you didn’t play the first time around.

Up until recently, my machine (which is a not-underpowered Dual Opteron machine) had a pathetic excuse for a graphics card. Now it’s got nVidia 7900′s in SLI (not the latest, but still damn powerful), which means that I can now play all the games I didn’t play years ago at max settings.

I’m currently working my way through Hitman: Blood Money, and I’ve recently finished Portal, HL2:E1 and HL2:E2. I might even re-play Half-Life 2 again. And you know what? These games kick booty. Because I never played them the first time around, and because I’m not playing the latest offerings right now, these games are as fresh as they were the day they were released. The big difference though? Because they’re old, I can play them at max settings, and they’re cheap. Hitman only cost me 20 bucks.

Test Drive Unlimited? Sure the servers aren’t exactly full, but the single-player campaign is no less awesome, and it’s cheap, and it looks absolutally awesome.
