About

There are countless ‘tech’ and ‘computer’ focused sites out there on the inter-web. We know this. However, we all have our own experiences, which we may wish to share with others, and thus the focus will always be a little bit different.
Below is a brief description of each contributor to this site:

Farseeker:

My name is Mark and I design enterprise systems, like Customer Relationship Management, Asset tracking, Intranets, Extranets, etc. I work in a Rapid Application Development tool (and environment) with just myself and my boss. We deploy medium-sized Microsoft SQL and Pervasive ISAM databases in Windows Terminal Servers.

In fact if you can’t see a pattern evolving there, I’m very much a Microsoft fanboy. Yes I use that term tongue in cheek, but that’s the way it is. I’m not a fan of Linux, I don’t mind Unix and I hate firefox.

I went through a few of my tech writings on my own blog and have provided a few that pretty much sum me up:

The universe revolves around the Sun
I hate firefox
Future Self and I” (aka I hate Firefox)
I hate firefox” (No thats not a doubleup)
I hate WebCT
This fucking pisses me off” (aka I hate Firefox fanboys)

And just for some balance:

Stuck between a rock and a… well you know” (aka I hate firefox a little bit less)

Insanity:

I am the Anti-Mark.  My name, specifically, is not Mark, I don’t work for any enterprise businesses, I find Microsoft’s business tactics to be more offensive than it’s software, and I never feel more safe and at home than when I’m tweaking my Ubuntu Hardy install to try and do something like useful like say… oh I don’t know… boot up into X after upgrading my kernel…

In terms of education and such, I am an engineer in training at the moment, finishing a 5 year course in Robotics & Software engineering in Melbourne, Victoria.  I have had some good industry experience (2 years full time) so far working for 2 companies, delving into both hardware and software systems.

I tend to fall on the Open Source Software side of the fence, because I am a poor student and value my money more than my time (hence running Ubuntu!).  My primary purpose here is to contradict everything Mark says and cloud all issues raised :) .  So hopefully, this will make for an entertaining read and lively discussion if nothing else.

Sparky:

Hi there. Strangely enough, I actually fall in the middle between Insanity, and Farseeker. I’ve spent four years working in the education sector as a systems administrator and technician. I then worked for about two years for a small onsite computer company servicing residential and small businesses, and now I’m a full time univeristy student studying Information Technology and Systems.

I’m a fan of Linux, and the Open Source community, whilst still having a respect for what Microsoft (and its products) was – and is – able to do. This is largely due to the environments I’ve worked in, and seeing the result of these products being used. However, more and more I’m becoming disenchanted with what Microsoft is, and does. Their revolution seems to have ceased, lacking innovation or anything inspiring – and given the costs of their products, I question how they can justify it.
